How I went textless!

June 8th, 2010

I am textless! Most of the younger generation, and even some older ones are texting like mad. Not me. As you probably know by now I have an Iphone.  Between the wife and I, we use a free app called WhatsApp.  It’s more of an instant messenger app than a texting app, but it works well for us.  It has push notification so you get your messages popping up on the screen just like you would a text.  AT&T has a plan for $5 that has 200 texts.  I *may* use 15 a month.  They charge $.20 per, so that is $3 a month if I get them.

Now, you may call me a tightwad, but I don’t really care to do a lot of texting, so I called AT&T and asked them to shut off texing on my phone.  It is not off on my wife phone, but she rarely get’s texts either.  It was a pretty easy process, and quick for them to do.  They told me that people who do try to text me will get a message back telling them I do not receive texts anymore.

Just call me Scrooge…

How to check your Iphone data usage. You might be able to save some money…

June 8th, 2010

Let’s talk about how easy it is to check your data usage history on att.com

Once logged in, look in the lower right of the home screen just above the ad’s for phones at the bottom.  Click on the View Past Data Usage

It will bring you to this screen, where you can choose the user and the beginning and end dates for your data usage report.  Remember you can move to the $15 200MB plan.  As you can see, I am barely using 100 MB a month.  Between our two phones, we can save $30 a month.

AT&T says no more unlimited data, $15 for 200 MB

June 4th, 2010

It doesn’t affect me too much as I am withing range of a wireless hotspot and normally only use 90 to 100 MB a month anyway on my Iphone plan.  The story is that ATT will no longer allow anyone to sign up under the unlimited plan, you will get 200 MB for $15 or 2 GB for $25.  My unlimited plan is costing $30 now, so between the two Iphones on my plan, we can move to the $15 plan and save $30 a month.
